Artist's Comments

Ehh, there was going to be a big paragraph about how each year around this time I have an epiphany and feel I have to justify a whole 'wasted' year with artworks that really mean something to me. But halfway through I got bored. So I'll just leave you too look at this.

With a little explanation: I met Weasel (my best friend and arch nemesis) in 1996, and whenever we had spare time (and sometimes in the middle of exams) we used to pass our time in drawing millions upon millions of little creatures. We had books, notepads and binders full of terrible little doodles. Thirteen years on, I still have a few of those drawings and we've always been meaning to re-draw some creatures with the 'skills' we have today. However the closest I ever got was LACONIC PROSAIC - Imagination. And so, getting sick of my LP3 style, I thought it was time to give it another try.

The Blue Robot Dinosaur: I remember was named something along the lines of Robosaur. He was, well, a robot dinosaur obviously, and probably some kind of superhero, even though he looked like a complete douchebag.
The Yellow Guy: Was, oddly, supposed to be their leader. His name was William, and I'm not sure why. I had to change his hollow-headed design in this 2008 version as in the original he looked like some demented Teletubby.
The Little Red One: I believe I named Junior, though who he was junior of I have no idea. His simplistic figure style was pretty much the building block for all my human-like character drawings up until the late 90s.
The Blue Monster: I cannot recall his name at all, but he was the doughy friend of William's. I think he most reflected myself as I was always wearing caps and was not so bright in primary school (and still?).
The Orange Cat-Dinosaur: I don't believe I actually ever named him and, as I'd also never drawn him in his entirety, I had to create for him a body in this version. I think I once imagined him with six legs though. (He was one of my favourites.)
The Trumpet-Nosed Thing: Was, I believe, influenced from an old magazine advert, though for what it was advertising I cannot recall. This character would have been quite annoying in personality, I concluded.
The Mohawked Dinosaur: Never had a name either as far as I recall. Seemed to be a friend of the Robot Dinosaur, but in drawings always ended up looking like his dim-witted sidekick... Though, perhaps he was.
The Green Snake: No monster group is complete without a cool giant snake with attitude. It's name was probably something ingenius like Snakey. Came about from continuously drawing stick-figure snakes.

Of course, these monsters really only make 'sense' (if that) to Weasel and I, so for those who have never seen the original, ->here<- it is. Of course, this was 1996 and we used to churn the little creatures out in about ten seconds flat, so don't be expecting much. Also the image in the middle I've whited out as it was probably copyrighted. Hell, being a kid half the inspiration I got for most of the characters were copyrighted, so don't be suprised to recognise small traits from more famous cartoons.

Artworks attempting to justify:
2008 - Thirteen Years On (drawing, re-drawing childhood sketches.)
2008 - As It Stands (literature, an explanation and an apology.)
2007 - Bah, Humbug (journal, a reflection on Christmas 2007.)
2007 - Dave the Ragtroll (drawing, illustration of self in favourite outfit.)
2007 - My Memories of Sun (journal, just some emo poem I made.)
2007 - LACONIC PROSAIC - Continuity (comic, the first strip of Laconic Prosaic 3.)
2007 - Valhalla's Melody (drawing, in memory of Melody)
