LACONIC PROSAIC – Blackout

There are a few weird and worrying things that I love in life. One of them is power blackouts. At night, not in the middle of blistering summer. How you have to stumble around finding candles or torches, while a blind person could walk through the house without half the trouble. How it makes you feel like you're living in the 1600s when there was no electric lighting or modern technology. Eating and reading in the flickering light of candles. The solid silence in the air that comes with the shutting off of all the gadgets and appliances that make constant background noise that you've grown accustomed to. Looking out the window and seeing the whole street in darkness and knowing that everyone in their dark houses are doing exactly as you are – living as their ancestors did.

A list of my top five odd loves can be seen >here.<

-giggles- We don't get blackouts here. We're on the same grid as a hospital, so the power is triple protected and when it does (very seldomly) go out, it's on again within a half an hour. Can't have people dying in the hospital!!

Note: I love how expressive you can be with eyes alone! -happy squee-

I love blackouts too. I like the feeling of isolation you get, or sitting around a fire with your family, or just listening to the sounds of the storm that usually causes them.

*huggles the blackouts she remembers from early childhood*

*smiles* I haven't been in a black out situation since I was knee high to a grasshopper (whatever that means).

My best black out memory was looking out the window while the power was out all down my street just in time to see lightning strike the railway track across the road from my house. My family and I used to sit out the front of our house and watch the lightning put on a show. During dry storms, I remember when most of the neighbors did the same thing. I miss that.

Aaw, that's so totally awesome.

I live up in a random part in the hills
Where there's nothing but retirement homes.
I guess they don't really care if the old people are without power.
Honestly, how are they supposed to watch the 5:00 news in a blackout?

I did this strip on one of my lazy days,
Hence the simple idea of a blackout.
But I love eyes, so much emotion happens in the eyes.
Even if I'm not all that skilled in capturing it.

They can be so wonderful, can't they?
With no modern distractions, it's all about family.
There a point in every day when I wish I lived in the Dark Ages.

. . . But only for a while. I couldn't survive there forever.

Storms are fantastic, aren't they?
So majestic, so powerful, so enigmatic.
(Well, to me anyway as I'm not a meteorologist.)

I used to live on farms for half my life,
And sitting out the back as storms unleashed themselves,
Into the surrounding wide open paddocks and dense woodlands,
Is just wow. I wish I could live that simple and content again.
But alas, technology has it's claws deep within me.

I wish I'd have seen lightning strike something.
You're so lucky to have seen a spectical as that.
I'd love to own a piece of lightning-made glass.

We used to play UNO by candlelight in blackouts. We did a puzzle once too.

:iconlaconic-prosaic:
I'm frightened of Uno. Especially the hand-smashing part.
It sounds scarier than using a Ouija board by candlelight. >_<

Hehe. I think I'm too attached to my computer to live in the Dark Ages...
